After a very promising opening half hour, "Maxxxine" then it branched off into a confusing, incomprehensible mess that went in several directions
The script introduces subplots involving a sleazy detective and satanic serial killers with a mind-boggling explanation at the end that makes no sense at all in relation to what happened in “Pearl.” And why Maxine is so resistant to working with the police to find out who did the killing is never explained. There were some great performances from everyone involved (especially Mia Goth and Kevin Bacon, as usual) and some dark humor about the dark side of staying relevant in Hollywood that really stood out. But the plot felt like it was written quickly in two days with very little thought put into using logic or faithfulness to the previous two films in the trilogy.
I recommend waiting for streaming
