100 años de soledad is one of the greatest high points of Spanish-language literature
Set in the timeless town of Macondo, seven generations of the Buendía family navigate love, oblivion, and the inevitability of their past and destiny. This is Netflix’s most expensive Latin American project to date, with Colombian groups and indigenous communities building props and sets for the series.
Its style is unparalleled and its scope beyond imagination
The characters are so well portrayed that any screenwriter would have no problem writing them for the screen. The seemingly insurmountable problem in adapting the novel, however, was its length.
Compressing one hundred years of family and country history was an impossible task
Nearly 60 years since its release, the novel has found a cinematic home on Netflix. Only streaming can do it justice, and the first two episodes are really promising.
The plot develops smoothly with richness and depth
Great photography, art direction, and respect for the characters. The voiceover is necessary to bring out García Marquez’s wonderful prose from time to time.
Wall, so far, I think it’s a success
I love it and was a little skeptical that the magical world of GGM would translate to the screen. No need to waste time scrolling endlessly – here’s the full lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
