Plot: Need for Speed Underground 2 takes place in Bayview after the events of Need for Speed: Underground
The prologue begins with the player driving a Nissan Skyline R34 in Olympic City (although the racing scenes actually take place in Bayview), the setting of NFS:UG. He then receives a race challenge from a rather menacing figure who offers him a spot in his crew, but “will not take no for an answer”. Despite Samantha’s warnings, the player speeds up and is hit by a mysterious driver who becomes enraged and crashes his Skyline. The driver, who has a unique scythe tattoo, confirms the accident over the phone and the memories fade. We quickly cut to the present, where we see the player arriving in Bayview by plane with a note from Samantha directing them to her friend Rachel (voiced by Brooke Burke), who will take the player there.

He also has the keys to Rachel’s Nissan 350Z, which is waiting for him outside the airport. The player then has the opportunity to race the car several times before inevitably driving it back to the parking lot, where Rachel lectures him for being late before letting him choose the first car. This is free, as the player’s insurance paid for the total loss of the Skyline. The player then embarks on a quest to become the best racer in Bayview and ultimately defeat the man who sabotaged his car in the flashback, who turns out to be Caleb. After winning numerous races, the player meets Caleb’s street racing crew, the Wraiths.

The player challenges them to a URL (Underground Racing League) race and eventually gets Caleb’s second-in-command, Nikki, to join him. Rachel tells the player that Caleb has been manipulating sponsorship deals throughout Bayview to his advantage. After the player defeats the Wraiths, an enraged Caleb challenges the player to one last race in his customized Pontiac GTO.
